The Atlanta Hawks and the YMCA of metro Atlanta announced today a new partnership to strengthen local community efforts and build connection through the world of basketball. The YMCA and its unique 'Y" logo will be added to the jerseys of the Atlanta Hawks and g-league College Park Skyhawks.
Since 1858, the YMCA has been servicing the Atlanta area and has 35 locations all across the Metro Atlanta. The YMCA's mission is to empower young people and communities worldwide to build a just, sustainable, equitable and inclusive world, where every person can thrive in body, mind and spirit. (YMCA)
In efforts to increase on assess and provide more opportunities to service more people, the two have paired up for a unique collaboration.
The two organizations have plans to collaborate on initiatives throughout the city of Atlanta aimed at increasing access to youth sports, especially basketball.
The sport of basketball was created by Dr. James Naismith, while teaching physical education at the YMCA in 1891. Fast forward to the year 2023, where there are more than 16,000 basketball courts all over the world!
“Everything the YMCA of Metro Atlanta does is grounded in meeting the unique needs of communities – and we can’t do it alone. We’re grateful to partner with the Atlanta Hawks. Together we can increase access and involvement and provide the opportunity for more people to discover their potential and thrive,” said Lauren Koontz, president and CEO of the YMCA of Metro Atlanta. “We’re proud to partner with an organization that has shared values of impacting the lives of Atlantans through providing access to youth sports, and curating community programming.”
The partnership between the Atlanta Hawks and the YMCA proves that together we are stronger in numbers. Want to see the Hawk's newest jersey edition? The jerseys are to be debuted starting at tomorrow's night game against the Indiana Pacers. Go Hawks!
