Uber is taking the wheel to drive change in the Black business world! On Monday, February 6th, the National Urban League and Uber are announcing an epic partnership promising turbo-charge entrepreneurship among Uber drivers and couriers.
Uber has committed $10 million in 2020 to support Black-owned businesses, and this announcement marks just the beginning of their efforts. They have also collaborated with Operation HOPE, Local Initiatives Support Corporation, EatOkra, and Black Women in Food on various educational and financial resource programs for Black businesses.So buckle up, everyone - it looks like it's going to be a wild ride! Get ready for some serious innovation that will help Uber drivers and couriers accelerate their dreams of business success. Let's all get behind this revved-up initiative, and drive change together!
Julia Paige, Uber’s Global Head of Social Impact, said, “Today’s announcement marks another significant milestone in Uber’s commitment to support Black businesses. Along with our partners at LISC, EatOkra, Operation Hope, and the National Urban League, we are proud to provide resources and funding to support the continued success of Black restaurants and the communities they serve.”
In addition to Uber, partners alongside The National Urban League in the program included:
Ø EatOkra, the most trusted source for Black-owned food experiences, will invite Black restaurant owners on Uber Eats to use the EatOkra e-learning platform to learn from restaurant industry experts and apply for capital to accelerate business growth.
Ø Black Women in Food identifies and amplifies Black women in the food industry. Their Speaker Series and Grant Program will bring together and support Black women to advance their work and contribute to a more equitable food system.
Ø Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC), a community development organization, will set up a Black Restaurant Fund so Black restaurant owners on Uber Eats can apply for funds on large capital investments.
Ø Operation Hope, a financial literacy and empowerment organization, will manage a $1 Million Black Business Program (1MBB) to support Black restaurant owners, drivers, and couriers on Uber to build human capital, provide social capital and ensure access to capital.
Ø The National Urban League’s Entrepreneurship Program will help Uber drivers and couriers with entrepreneurial goals to grow and expand their businesses.
