Just when we thought we had seen and heard it all, last weeks’ episode proved to bring even more twists and turns than a maze. The shocking reveal made last season that Detective Howard was Kanans’ biological father has made headways into season 2 as the focal point of interest. I personally thought that Howard was going to let sleeping dogs lay, but apparently his trip to the hospital gave him new life and vengeance.
We see Howard finally make the big reveal to Kanan, but it seems that the reaction that he was hoping for didn’t quite happen. Kanan appeared to be more confused and intrigued by the idea that Howard could be his father. Ultimately leading him back to his only source --Raquel. Can we say Spicy!?!
From one enemy to the next, the family seems to be creating new enemies each week. In an effort to expand the business, Raq makes the decision to move beyond the streets of New York to New Jersey. This new move brings the family in yet another feud that seems to for surely end in gun fire. As usual, the feud in the family is still present. Lou Lou continues to become more and more distant from the business as he pursues a new artist and tries to keep things running with his music label even though it isn't proving to be very profitable. The timing couldn’t be any worse as we see things begin to crumble within the empire. Unique is not taking his loss lightly and decides to get some revenge for Raquel sending him to jail and causing the loss of his business. It seems that Raq's bad luck may not be luck at all; and may be coming from a rat amongst the crew. All I can say is I hope Unique is prepared to deal with the wrath of Raq. I usually root for the bad guy, but what happens when there are two?! May the best man or woman win!
One thing for sure, Raq keeps her ears and eyes open to opportunies. Cartier “Duns” Fareed (played by Omar Dorsey) is the definition of a true hustler. He implores Raq to think outside the box as she makes her stamp as one of the only distributers left on the New York streets after eliminating her competition.
Cartier uses a different approach but utilizing smaller markets like DC and Baltimore and even introduces Raq into other business formats like music and art to wash her money. It looks like this pair may be getting into more than business, but only time will tell. One thing about Raq, she is always looking for the next best thing.
Also being introduced this season is Jukebox's mother Kenya (played by Letoya Luckett). Kenya left Jukebox behind as she tried her luck at stardom in Los Angeles; but after a brief unsuccessful stent, decides to return to New York some years later.
Jukebox decides to reach out for answers and to possibly build a relationship with her mother. One gift that the share is their love and talent for music. After losing the love of her life, it looks like Jukebox may finally be finding some peace.
The rat in the crew isn't who we would suspect. Kanan's harmless skims off the stash money is causing even more tension between the crew and their newest member Worrell (played by actor John Clay III).
Kanan decides to help out his bestie Famous by stealing product and money from his own mother! Talk about shady! From the looks of things, no one suspects anything just yet, which is good for his sake.
Wild parties and lots of women seem to be the theme amongst these young raging hormones.
Next week, we will be up to episode5 and things are hotter than ever. Will Unique keep his word and ride off into the peaceful sunset or will his desire to seek cause a collapse of the castle? From next weeks’ sneak peak it looks like Unique isn’t the only enemy that Raquel has to look out for.
You can catch Power Book III: Raising Kanan on the Starz network on Sundays at 9:00 p.m. eastern standard time
