Super Publix at Buckhead: A Luxurious Grocery and Dining Experience

By: Sherifat A. Mohammed

Grocery shopping may be a hassle to many and it is an essential task that many of us do weekly, sometimes even more frequently. It’s a part of our routine, but it can quickly become overwhelming. Whether you’re rushing through the aisles during your lunch break or braving the weekend crowds, the experience seems to come with a unique set of challenges. There’s a universal truth about grocery shopping: it’s nearly impossible to avoid peak shopping hours. Whether it’s the early morning rush or the evening after-work crowd, supermarkets often feel more like a battlefield than a place to pick up a carton of milk. The aisles are jammed with slow-moving carts, and maneuvering around them requires more agility than some of us are prepared to show. Let’s not even talk about the experience on weekends when the store is at full capacity, and you can barely move without bumping into someone.

Even if you arrive at the store with a perfectly planned shopping list, it rarely goes as smoothly as you'd like. You’ve carefully written down what you need, but you quickly realize that the items are nowhere to be found, or they’re placed in confusing, hard-to-navigate sections of the store. You’ll often find yourself wandering aimlessly down aisles you don’t even remember entering, hoping to spot that one elusive item. To make things worse, you’ll inevitably forget something important or pick up something you didn’t need because it was "on sale" or "new."

We were told to never go to the grocery store hungry. Say hello to impulse buys! Grocery stores are notorious for placing small, irresistible items at checkout—candies, magazines, and snack-sized versions of popular products. For those who come to the store already feeling a bit tired or overwhelmed, these temptations can quickly add up. And let’s be honest, how many of us have thrown a random item (or two, or three) into our cart just because it was conveniently placed right in front of us? It's almost as if the store’s entire layout is designed to separate us from our well-intentioned budget.

For many, it’s not just about grabbing ingredients for dinner, but navigating a maze of inconvenience, stress, and frustration. Making a list of things you want. Children running throughout the store grabbing things they shouldn’t grab. Or maybe, you went to the grocery store hungry. So, now you’re throwing every junk food item, that you swore off, into the cart.

Grocery shopping takes up a lot of time. From getting there, finding parking, wandering the aisles, and checking out, it’s a lengthy process that can eat up an entire chunk of your day. Factor in waiting in long lines and the time it takes to put everything away when you get home, and it’s easy to see why grocery shopping often feels like an inefficient, time-consuming chore. Finally, there's the aftertaste of a long grocery haul. You arrive home, put the groceries away, and collapse on the couch, only to realize you’ve still got to cook dinner. What was supposed to be a “quick” trip to pick up a few ingredients has now turned into an exhausting day, leaving you with less energy and motivation than you’d hoped.

Say goodbye to grocery shopping of the past. You should come to this grocery store hungry.  Publix has now turned the grocery store experience into a luxurious shopping and dining experience. The new Publix replaced the “Disco Kroger” located on Piedmont Road. The “Disco Kroger” was a staple for over 47 years, and its lease expired which gave way for the new 55,000-square-foot Publix to be created. The shopping center that the former grocery store was located at redeveloped the center. The Super Publix officially opened on December 3, 2024 according to Fox 5 News.

In the Super Publix you can find their restaurant “Pours” which has a bar with craft beers, Acai bowls, and smoothies.  One thing that I know most Atlantans would enjoy is their new wing bar. The wing bar has many flavors and varieties. For those craving a quick snack, the Super Publix has a popcorn station  where they have various flavors fresh every day. You will find a fresh salad bar and sushi bar. The Super Publix also has their own version of the well-known Chipotle restaurant. Rumor has it that you can get guacamole and queso for free, but you didn’t hear about it from us. They offer places to sit and enjoy your food throughout the store.  With all of this, the Super Publix still has all of their regular grocery store items as well.

Publix is a household name in the southeastern United States, known for its commitment to quality, customer service, and community involvement. Since its founding in 1930, the grocery store chain has grown from a single store in Winter Haven, Florida, to a regional powerhouse with more than 1,300 locations across seven states. What makes Publix stand out in an increasingly competitive market? The answer lies in its focus on a unique shopping experience, a strong corporate culture, and a dedication to customer satisfaction.

Publix has built a reputation for offering high-quality products across a wide range of categories. The store features an expansive selection of fresh produce, meat, seafood, bakery goods, and deli items. Publix’s bakery is particularly popular, with fresh bread, cakes, and pastries that are made daily. The store's "Pub Subs" – freshly made sandwiches – are also a fan favorite, known for their high-quality ingredients and generous portions.

In addition to fresh foods, Publix also carries a wide range of packaged goods, including organic, gluten-free, and specialty items. Many of its private-label products, sold under the Publix brand, are known for their quality and value. This includes everything from snacks and canned goods to cleaning supplies and beauty products.

Despite all of its challenges, grocery shopping is a necessity in our lives. Publix looks to be changing the game when it comes to our grocery store experience. Whether you are shopping for your family, for yourself or just grabbing a quick bite to eat we all  have to do it.  The new Super Publix may become your new lunch hangout spot with your family or friends. However, you don’t have to take our word for it. Try it out for yourselves.

Happy Shopping!
