Senators Ossoff and Reverend Warnock Introduce Transportation Bill Urging Additional Funding

Georgia’s new Senators, Sen. Ossoff and Sen. Warnock are already trying to pass legislation through the United States Senate. Both Senators have proposed a Public Transportation Expansion Act that is designed to fund public transportation for low-income families and communities. The act would be federally run and give communities an opportunity to have critical access to transportation means.

The two Georgia Senators believe this will be extremely beneficial to the underserved populations in Atlanta to gain better access to work, hospitals, and stores. It will also reduce heavy pollution. Sen. Ossof pulled some shocking numbers to help catapult this bill into office, reporting that upwards of 70% of residents living in metro Atlanta don’t have access to a health care facility within thirty minutes.

The act has already garnered the support of fellow Senators Catherine Cortez Masto, Elizabeth Warren, Chris Van Hollen, and Tina Smith. Georgia’s House of Representatives member, Congressman Hank Johnson has filed similar legislation through the House to try and get this essential bill passed that would greatly benefit many citizens. It would reduce inequalities through transportation and provide underserved areas a chance at more career and schooling opportunities that they could otherwise not attend.
