Johnny Smith, a professor at the School of History and Sociology emphasizing sports history, is seeing a dream come true that not many Americans can say they have seen come to pass. His book, co-authored with Randy Roberts from Purdue University, is hitting the spotlight of Los Angeles in a new documentary set to release on September 9th. The prestigious book – Blood Brothers: The Fatal Friendship Between Muhammad Ali and Malcolm X touches on the turbulent relationship between Muhammad Ali and Malcolm X and what led to their ultimate downfall.

Netflix is now adapting this book into a series called Blood Brothers: Malcolm X & Muhammad Ali, directed by Marcus A. Clarke. The documentary will include never-before-seen footage and interviews with Muhammad Ali’s brother and Malcolm X’s daughter. The book and the show are set to create a tidal wave of information to be shed in the public light as viewers can see the social injustices, religious, and race issues that plagued the boxers at the peak of their competition.

If you haven’t already – be sure to watch the trailer and tune in to see a local Atlanta professor; make it to the big stage in what is sure to be a thought-provoking documentary.
