The unexpected nature of the COVID-19 pandemic has increased crime right in Atlanta’s Lenox Square mall. Violent crimes committed by minors have been on the rise during the past two years which have led to a number of instances that have injured community members and security guards. In June of this year, two 15-year-old kids shot a security officer before fleeing the premises.
Another instance in August saw a citizen arrive at a hospital from another gunshot wound at Lenox Square. Concern has been rising within local communities on the safety of shopping at the prestigious mall which has spurred action by local officials.
The new restrictions will come into effect on September 21st. These new rules will restrict minors from entering the shopping mall after 3:00 P.M. unless accompanied by someone over the age of twenty-one. It will also limit the number of minors per one adult to four and metal detectors as well as K-9 units will become more prevalent.
If minors are found without an adult with them, then they will be escorted off the property. The goal of this strict rule is to reduce the number of violent crimes and create a safe haven for the community.
