In the Beginning,
Skater Kyle Dutcher, born and raised in Stone Mountain, Georgia, has a story that describes his perseverance and tenacity, ultimately pushing him into destiny. The Atlanta native, and celebrity skater, has made a name for himself at the center of Atlanta’s skate culture. Dutcher, in the mid-2000s, at the age of 26, started his unforeseen and successful journey in the art of skateboarding. Inspired by his three-year-old daughter, after attending a birthday party, wanting to go skating is how it all began. Stemming from their father and daughter time together, Kutcher took hold of skating. He then mixed it with his love of ATL’s skate and JB styles, originating from Chicago (The Godfather of Soul, James Brown). Dutcher decided to hone in on his precision skills, creating a style of his own; and building a platform that would later catapult him to the level of greatness he has achieved.
“Skating to me is rewarding. It’s a cool way to meet and greet new people.”
Taking advantage of the epicenter, Dutcher decided to use the Atlanta monument, the “Cascade,” as his training ground. The skating rink has been a staple in the community for years. Constructed in the late ’90s, formerly known as the “Cascade Family Skating,” the ”Cascade,” has hosted celebrity greats such as Magic Johnson, Beyonce, P. Diddy, and many more. Moreso, it was the skate down for the movie ATL, produced by Chris Robinson in 2006. As a result, the movie’s premiere of the skating rink has brought people from all over the world to see and experience the hype and vibes that goes on while skating to the beats at the Cascades.
Pressing Forward
Allowing him the opportunity to evolve, Kyle Dutcher, with nothing more than a pair of roller skates and an indomitable spirit, “pressed” beyond life circumstances and hypnotically began to glide across the skating rink: thus evolving into his new name and identity “PUSH.” Truly indicative of his testimony, PUSH “pressed until something happened.” And boy, did it ever! Today he is known worldwide and revered as one of the most extraordinary rollerskaters in the world.
Continuing to refine his craft, in 2019, the professional skater went viral after a video of him and his crew were caught performing one of his unique moves. The footage prompted the reaction of All Def Digital comedian and social media personality, Tahir Moore. In the video, PUSH has captured skating and not missing a beat- leaving a bystander off-kilter who had presumably thought that he (the bystander) had it all together, speechless. The video was later posted on larger social platforms such as The Shade Room and D.L. Hughley. Overnight, the subtle, and hidden talents of Dutcher had become an online sensation, making him a celebrity. The video garnered him thousands of followers and hundreds of millions of views. Since then, he has trained celebrities such as Usher, Sherri Shepherd, and Jermaine Dupri. As a result, Dupri and Shaquille O'Neal engaged in a friendly online skater rivalry, later captured in a photograph together while in Atlanta.
Other Greats
PUSH, a member of the Screen Actors Guild (SAG-AFTRA) starred in the first Apple iPod commercial and America's Got Talent. In addition, he participated as a consultant in the skate crew "The Preps" from his city of origin, the classic movie "ATL." In 2020, Season 2 of Wife Swap, featured on the Paramount Network, PUSH was featured, and as a result, the episode is viewed as one of the most famous and divisive episodes. Watch it for yourself. As if the year 2020 needed to bring more hype and success, PUSH signed a contract with the talent acquisition agency KXNGPXN Skating Alliance, located in Charlotte, North Carolina.
The contract spawned other business ventures wherein PUSH collaborated with Nike and Ocean Spray. He has also secured sponsorships and deals with numerous clothing companies.
PUSH continues to share his skating prowess by skating at private parties, performing in music videos, presenting at VIP events, and providing workshops. His Kick Glide Skate Workshop is Atlanta's number one skate lesson. In 2022, PUSH established his own skate brand company, Nostalgia, and became a recognized participant in the Silver Fox Squad. Nostalgia can be described as “Boasting a neo-retro vibe the Nostalgia skate is designed for comfort, performance, and style.” In addition, the brand skate features the “highest quality of materials that provide quality inner lining, water resistance and closed cell memory foam for protection of irritation.”
The Silver Fox Squad is for the older gentleman whose mission is to inspire men who care about their style, health, image, and overall appearance- all while representing a dapper fashion. The Squad has even appeared at the New Orleans Essence Music Festival. You can also see PUSH representing new merchandise exclusively by Vintage Lords. www.pushglide.com.
PUSH is committed to keeping his legacy alive and motivating the new generations of roller skaters. When asked about the culture that shaped him, PUSH responded, “These streets are the incubator. It's a culture where we don't have to be anything but ourselves. We can just skate and dance in our own way, with no expectations." Today, the Cascade skating rink is home to PUSH's growing skate team and community. Through commitment and dedication, he has helped develop an environment that cultivates and nurtures aspiring skaters who wish to live their dreams on wheels. PUSH’s “press” symbolizes the power of resilience, both in and out of the skating rink. Through hard work, dedication, and unyielding passion, Kyle Dutcher took his roller skating skills from the streets of Atlanta, gliding them to international stardom and fame. His story is inspirational to anyone who aspires to achieve great things regardless of their circumstances or starting point.
By pushing forward, mastering the dexterity needed, and proving his prowess-Kyle Dutcher has made a name for himself in the roller skating culture. He continues to inspire others through his incredible story of commitment, fortitude and athleticism. His fervor for roller skating will undoubtedly be felt by generations to come! We look forward to greater things from PUSH as he continues to Kick Glide his way in and out of the skating rink.
