How Will the New Ordinance Effect Nightlife in Atlanta

Atlanta is a significant city with a vibrant nightlife. There are many bars, clubs, and restaurants to choose from, so there is something for everyone. Our City is also known for its home to various music venues, ranging from small clubs to large arenas. Whether you're looking for a laid-back evening or a night of dancing, you can always find it in Atlanta.

But recent violent events in the community have made some concerned about the safety of nightlife in Atlanta. Due to recent shootings and violent incidents, The Atlanta Police Department has been called to ensure customers' safety at several popular nightspots. Therefore,  Atlanta Police Department has increased patrols in popular nightlife areas in response to these concerns. They have also increased their presence on social media to provide information and updates to the public about these incidents. The Atlanta Police Department urges people to be aware of their surroundings and report any suspicious activity.

Another individual set on changing things and promoting safety in our community is Mayor Andre Dickens. Nightlife is vital to Atlanta's economy and the things people like to do when they visit the City and those who live here in Atlanta, so we want to make sure we get it right," Dickens told FOX 5. Part of his initiative to ensure safety with these nightlife vendors is by passing a new ordinance. If a business is declared a nuisance by the Atlanta Municipal Court two times within 24 months, it may be shut down for up to 12 months under legislation sponsored by Council Member Dustin Hillis. A nuisance business can be any business, not just nightclubs. This measure is intended to help improve public safety by cracking down on companies that cause community problems.

Nuisance laws in Atlanta are designed to abate conditions that pose a danger to public health, safety, or welfare. Nuisances include abandoned buildings, excessive noise, public disturbances like graffiti, and more. This new ordinance would allow the City to shut down a business found to be a nuisance twice within 24 months. And would hopefully help to improve public safety in the City of Atlanta.

Another action put in place by the Mayor to effectively manage violence in Atlanta is implementing the "Training Day Event" that occurs quarterly. This implementation is special safety training courses to educate bar and nightclub owners about alcohol safety and regulations and provide a forum for police to share crime prevention strategies with the businesses.

Their ultimate goal is to have the police force and businesses work together to diminish crime rates at these popular nightlife venues. However, not everyone is happy with this oversight from the City. Many club owners feel the responsibility shouldn't be all up to them. The community and police force must work together to make these areas safer.

Atlanta's nightlife is a booming industry worth billions of dollars. If the City doesn't improve its business policies, local businesses will suffer - which could be a slippery slope to disaster.
