Nothing is more stressful than traveling during the holidays. During Christmas week, 1.4 million people are expected to come through Atlanta Hartsfield airport! But have no fear, we have you covered with tips and tricks to make travel during this holiday season a little easier.
Add a Buffer Day
By adding on an extra day or two ahead of the holiday, you can avoid missing or being delayed in travel. The extra day would accommodate should you have some type of delay, and would give you a little bit of wiggle room.
Book in Advance
Last minute holiday travel can be costly. Try booking your flight at least 6 months in advance to get the best pricing. Booking in advance also ensures that you get the best flight time, and pick of seating.
Schedule Ride Share
Booking a ride share can be a task, especially if you have early morning travel. Schedule a ride, or book a car service for your day of travel in advance. By scheduling a ride, you guarantee to have a pick up at the time that you need to get you off to your destination on time.
Arrive Early
On a regular day, going through TSA check points can take up to 2 hours. Arrive at least 2 hours prior to flight boarding time to ensure that you are able to get through security and to your terminal. Early morning flights are typically less likely to be delayed or cancelled.
Travel Rewards
Have any reward points or travel vouchers? Time to cash in. Travel rewards can help cover part or most of the expenses related to flight or hotel, and possibly free up some cash for other things like holiday gifts. Airline miles, hotel points, or credit card rewards usually have lengthy expiration dates, so be sure to check on those dates.
Plan for Delays/Cancellation
Unexpected delays and cancellation happen at the worst times. Holiday travel brings million into airports nationwide often without adequate airline personnel. Have an alternative travel plan ready in the event of a cancellation. Research train or rental cars from your area in the event that you may need to do a list minute change.
Travel Check List
Ever gone on vacation, and forgotten something? Story of all of our lives right. Leaving behind a curling iron or even your i.d. can have an effect on your entire trip. A travel check list can eliminate showing up without the things you need. Take a look at our travel check list. Simply screen shot the list and print. Happy travel!
