Goodbye Quiet Luxury, Welcome Back Maximalism

For the past couple of years, "quiet luxury" dominated fashion conversations—muted palettes, subtle branding, and understated elegance ruled the streets and the runways. Also known as “stealth wealth” – luxury that only those in the know can recognize– this trend has consumers wanting to emulate the understated elegance of old-money aesthetics rather than the ostentatious displays of wealth seen in past decades.

But if you paid attention to this year's men’s fashion week, you’ll notice the tides are shifting.

Maximalism is back in a major way, and the latest Louis Vuitton collections prove it. Pharrell Williams’s current reign at LV has had an impeccable pulse on what fashion lovers actually want. He set the tone for this shift with his Fall menswear collection in 2024 with cowboy-inspired Western aesthetic, studded with rich textures and bold accessories, signaling a departure from the quiet luxury wave.  In his latest runway, William is doubling down on the idea that style in 2025 will be louder, prouder, and dripping in logos.

This recent collection featured bold prints, oversized monograms, and some of the flashiest accessories we’ve seen in years. And let’s talk about the bag charms—yes, the ones people claimed were "out." Pharrell said not so fast. Miniature LV trunks, fruit charms, and Murakami-era influences dangled from bags with unapologetic confidence. It’s the easiest way to take even the most simplistic dressers to a maximalist fashion style.

Louis Vuitton Spring-Summer 2025 Pre-Collection

On the same note, Louis Vuitton’s re-edition collab with iconic artist Takashi Murakami further cements this maximalist resurgence. The return of those vibrant, logo-heavy multicolor monogram bags that debuted on the runway in 2003 feels like a full-circle moment—what was once peak Y2K luxury is now the future of fashion once again. Since the re-release of the bag, the popularity of logos in fashion has increased by 70%, with quiet luxury on a continuous decline since December.

This shift to maximalism reflects a broader cultural desire for bold self-expression, individuality, and reclaiming visibility in a world that often feels oversaturated with uniformity. After years of restraint, people are craving fashion that speaks loudly. The shift can also be attributed to social and economic uncertainty. Historically, fashion has responded to times of instability with extravagance—think the Roaring Twenties or the flashy 2000s post-recession fashion. In 2025, maximalism will be more than just an aesthetic; it’s an assertion of identity and the desire to stand out.

Other designers are also championing this movement. At Balenciaga, Demna’s Spring/Summer 2025 collection leaned into exaggerated silhouettes, statement layering, and textural clashes that scream confidence. Gucci, under the creative direction of Sabato De Sarno, blended vintage maximalist codes with modern-day tailoring, creating a hybrid of opulence and contemporary edge. Meanwhile, Loewe’s oversized embellishments and bold prints showcased an avant-garde approach to everyday luxury.

The rise of maximalism isn't just about clothing—it's influencing beauty, accessories, and even lifestyle choices. Statement jewelry is bigger than ever, with oversized earrings, chunky rings, and bold sunglasses dominating fashion week street style. Even in home decor, vibrant color palettes and mixed patterns are taking precedence over the muted tones of past years.

Fashion, as always, is a reflection of the times. As the world leans into change, uncertainty, and a collective need for joy, the resurgence of maximalism offers a refreshing escape.

The message for 2025? More is more.
