FreakNik returning to Atlanta

You might remember the popular Atlanta-based event in the 80s and 90s that attracted over a 200,000 people at its height. FreakNik largely appealed to college-aged students from local universities in celebration of Atlanta’s Black History and culture. The three-day event is set to kick off at Morris Brown College and is catered to those 18 and older.

The event will include performances by Trina, Trick Daddy 2 and others, as they gather together for a weekend filled with food, dancing, and tournaments. It will also include a film festival and job fair as FreakNik attempts to appeal to all attendees and provide an enlightening and fun weekend for adults.

At its peak, FreakNik was mentioned in Spike Lee’s School Daze film and the “Work it Out” music video that premiered in 1993. The goal of the new and improved FreakNik is to give people an opportunity to gather together to celebrate Atlanta’s history and the influencers that have arisen out of the city in the music, arts, media, government, and social sectors.

One thing is for certain – the event is bound to bring back nostalgic memories for some and new memories for young college students who haven’t yet had an opportunity to experience FreakNik in its full glory.
