The almost 74,000 fans at the Bank of America Stadium were in for a surprise when fifth-ranked Georgia bulldozed their way over third-ranked Clemson in the lowest-scoring points in a top-five matchup in at least fifty years. The defensive showdown proved to succeed as Georgia held Clemson to just three points.
Clemson could only gain two rushing yards during the entire game as Georgia essentially shut down Clemson on the offensive end to go up 10-0 heading into the fourth quarter. The most impressive feat of the entire game was a 74-yard touchdown run after an interception from Christopher Smith.
Clemson’s quarter, Uiagalelei – a Heisman Trophy candidate – was shut out from anything productive on the offensive end and was sacked seven times. Clemson couldn't follow through with a couple of opportunities to make a final push towards the endzone, and Georgia stomped out any thoughts of a comeback. The only points came when Clemson’s kicker arrived into the game with approximately nine minutes left and helped put three points onto the board for Clemson. Georgia has positioned itself to make a solid run for the College Football Championship following this top-seeded victory.
