There were a lot of very influential people golfing for a cause on Monday, August 30 at the Chris Tucker Golf Tournament. The impressive turnout speaks volumes about the mission of Tucker’s foundation, which resonates with those who care deeply about Atlanta children.

The golf tourney to raise funds for kids and education was well-attended, raising much needed funds for the foundation’s numerous initiatives. The guest list included many professional athletes and other celebs. Some in attendance:

           · Marcus Allen, former NFL running back is considered one of the greatest goal line and short-yard runners ever to work the gridiron.

           · Considered one of the most influential basketball players of all time, Julius Erving, aka Dr. J, transformed the game when the ABA and NBA merged in the mid-70s.

         · MLB center fielder and famous base-stealer, Otis Nixon, whose baseball career included stints with the Yankees, Indians, Red Sox, and Dodgers, ended his career with the Atlanta Braves.

   · Former basketball player, Congolelse-American Dikembe Mutombo is known for his humanitarianism, saving lives worldwide in his work to bring medical care to the underserved.

         · Chris Webber, former basketball player and Rookie of the Year, has a post-basketball career that includes sportscaster, sports analyst, and restaurateur.

         · Tennessee native Dale Ellis had a career as a shooting guard in Dallas and then Seattle, where his contributions to the SuperSonics helped him rise to star stature.

         · Takeo Spikes is one of only 7 linebackers to start more than 200 times in his NFL career. Since then, he inspires boys and girls at his TKO camp to reach their goals, despite hardships and barriers.

        · Two-time Grammy winner, Robert “Peabo” Bryson, is famed for his soul ballads, including his famous duet with Roberta Flack, “Tonight, I Celebrate My Love.”

         · Vince Carter, during his career as an NBA shooting guard and power forward was an 8-time All-Star and remains the only player in NBA history to play 22 seasons and whose career spanned 4 decades.

The Chris Tucker Foundation is a local Atlanta foundation whose vision is to “galvanize community leaders and corporate partners… to address critical needs affecting today’s young people.” They do this by providing scholarships to children of the impoverished and homeless, doing their level best to level the playing field in the greater Atlanta area.
