Kennedy Whisenet is no stranger to the pageant spotlight. Initially from Alabama, she strived to break the racial barriers within the pageant industry as was crowned Miss Alabama Collegiate two years ago. At the time, she was the first African American woman who had won the award.
Now, she is back to doing what she does best once again – breaking down racial barriers. Recently, Whisenet won the Miss Georgia Collegiate American Pageant, and again, she was in the spotlight for being the first African American in Georgia to win this award.
Whisenet doesn’t want to just stop at Georgia, she wants to shed a spotlight on the African American community as a whole by shooting for Miss Collegiate America. Her platform stems from the acronym BRAVE which means building respect and value for everyone. As she prepares to take her stance on a larger scale, she plans to visit multiple classrooms throughout Georgia to give seminars on BRAVE and racial disparities.
She knows she has a long journey ahead of her and while some seem surprised about Whisenet being the first African American woman to win this award – she knows just how hard it is to fight through inequalities and bring a spotlight on minority groups within America.
