Atlanta’s Mayor position is going to be a cut-throat race to the finish line. The position is filled with feasible candidates from ex-mayor Kasim Reed to various Council members and the City Council President Felicia Moore.
While the likely candidates are from this mixture, keep an eye out for some underdog running mates such as Mark Hammad and real estate investor Kirsten Dunn. This election is bringing to the limelight corruption and federal investigation from Kasim Reed’s mayoral time, rising crime rates, and recent socioeconomic pitfalls from the COVID-19 pandemic.
The mayoral candidates are expected to be focusing their messages on reform, pandemic responses, and boosting economic development. The race was supposed to be spearheaded by the current Mayor Keisha Bottoms; however, her decision to not run for reelection has thrown constituents for a loop as they determine who to place their support behind.
Most are currently undecided on who they would vote for at this current time. Sharon Gay, a private attorney who is also running for Mayor, has already raised over $200,000 in donations as well as personally funded $210,000 to her campaign. On the flip side, Antonio Brown, City Council member, is undergoing indictment for federal charges in which he has claimed innocence.
One thing is for certain – this mayoral run in Atlanta, Georgia is going to be one for the books.
