Atlanta Braves Win 2021 World Series, First Since 1995

Defeating the Houston Astros in November 2021 was a historical moment for the Braves, after 26 years since they won the 1995 World Series. Fans excitedly gathered at the Minute Maid Park by the thousands to watch the national baseball team go against the Astros. On October 26, they won Game One with a final score of six to two but lost Game Two to Houston with scores of two to seven the following day. After winning Game Three and Game Four, the champions returned home to Atlanta as the 2021 World Series Winners after the sixth game.

History of the Braves as a Major Baseball League

In franchise history, they are the World Series Champions for the fourth time and the second since moving to Atlanta in 1966. When the major league won the Championship in 1995, Bobby Cox, Chipper Jones, Greg Maddux, John Smoltz, and Tome Glavine were a part of the Hall of Fame team. Until August 6, 2021, the National League East Winners did not have a winning record. They had the lowest win total of any team to make it to the major league baseball postseason last year. In a non-shortened season, they are the eighth sub-90-win major league sports team to win a world series. After winning in 1995, the braves played in a series in 1999. ESPN reported they are the fourth team ever to advance to the World Series after having an All-Star losing record and the first to do so since 1991. From 1991 to 2005, they held the MLB record with 14 consecutive division titles and won only one World Series. In 2017 they won 72 games and had 90 winning games in 2018. A year before winning the 2021 World Series, Atlanta held a three-one lead in the NL Championship Series. They lost to the LA Dodgers who won the three final games.

An Overview of the 2021 World Series

During Game One, the braves replaced pitcher Charlie Morton with A. J. Minter in the second inning. He suffered a fracture to the right fibular and could not play for the rest of the series. At the beginning of the third inning, the team was up five to zero, and by the end of the fourth inning, the Astros scored, making the scores five to one. In the top eighth inning, the Georgia major league team scored again, bringing the score six to one. Things took a different turn when the Astros scored in the bottom eighth inning resulting in the final score of six to two. Following Game One, the Astros gained a win with a two to seven final score. Atlanta regained momentum by winning Games Three and Four before the Astros won Game Five. Houston anticipated a win for Game Six to bring the World Series to a tie between both teams. In the history of national league baseball, the team's seven to zero win over the Astros was an impressive late season.

2021 World Series Final Game Highlights

CNN quoted Freddie Freeman saying he was emotionless and numb after the win on November 3, 2021. Powerful pitching and three home runs in the top third inning contributed to the braves winning. After Astros pitcher Luis Garcia served the eighth pitch, Jorge Soler hit a three-run home run in the third inning of Game Six. Born in Cuba, Chevrolet presented Soler with the Willie Mays World Series MVP Award for hitting three home runs in the six games. He received credit for the win, along with several other players and the general manager Alex Anthopoulos who made the selection before July 30, the Trade Deadline in 2021. Unfortunately, Anthopoulos missed Game Six after testing positive for Covid-19.MLB.com reported that the Georgia MLB team became champions because of Max Fried's performance in the final game. He had six strikeouts and only allowed four hits in the six innings. Additionally, the quick execution of a new pitcher to replace Charlie Morton during Game One was a remarkable success. Atlanta MLB team manager Brian Snitker said that "you can not say enough about their pitching during the whole world series, world championship." He has been with the team for 44 years and credits the analytics staff and game-planning for the World Series 2021 win. The Houston Astros had six single hits and three at-bats with runners in position to score. Dusty Baker, the Astros manager, said that the pitching shut the team down, and the Braves played a great game, but his players could not keep them out of the ballpark.General manager Anthopoulos selecting Soler, Adam Duvall, and Eddie Rosario on the last day of the Trade Deadline was a strategic move. He added more talent to the team, which would help lead them to win the World Series last year. They received an MLB-record 59 home runs from players who began the season with other national league teams. Freeman had an RBI double in the fifth inning and one final home run in the seventh inning of the game. Bringing home the World Series after 26 years was a historical moment for the Braves and exciting for thousands of dedicated fans.
