All-Black Cast Set to Star in Tony Award-Winning Musical, Sweet Charity

Emmy nominated, Director, Producer, Choreographer, Songwriter, and Playwright, Stepp Stewart is adding a new look to Bob Fosse’s Tony Award winning musical, “Sweet Charity” (full title: “Sweet Charity: The Adventures of a Girl Who Wanted to Be Loved”) by casting a soulful cast; making an urban comeback for the first time in history.


Stepp Stewart: Stage Door Miracles; Dynamite Productions, has brought together a star-studded team remaking the remake of the 2005 musical sensation, featuring Kyra Da Costa, and Rhett George in this revival cast. Costa, playing the leading role of Charity Hope Valentine, is a singer, songwriter, and actress, who has starred in many major Broadway productions. Rhett George will also be reprising his role from the original cast as Nickie. As an addition, LaMonte Williams, will star in the feature, playing the role of Oscar, Charity’s boyfriend. Based upon the original film, directed, and choreographed by Bob Fosse, and written by Peter Stone, the Broadway musical featured music by Cy Coleman and Dorothy Fields. The 1969 comedy-drama starred big names such as Shirley MacLaine, John McMartin, and Sammy Davis Jr.

Synopsis: The setting of the musical takes place in 1969, New York City. Dance hall hostess, Charity Hope Valentine, has had a hard time looking for love. However, she is hopeful and optimistic about finding true love. In spite of experiencing a series of misfortunes and heartbreaks, Charity isn’t ready to give up on her dreams of finding the right man. Inundated with exciting choreography, dazzling costumes, amazing voices, a live orchestra, catchy musical numbers and fresh takes on classic songs, this production is sure to be a hit with audiences of all ages. One of the things that 'Sweet Charity' is most well-known for is its catchy musical numbers. Some of the hits you can expect to hear include “Hey Big Spender,” “If My Friends Could See Me Now,” and “The Frug.” These classics are sure to get your toes tapping and have
you singing along in no time. With exciting choreography, dazzling costumes, amazing voices, and a live orchestra, catchy musical numbers and fresh takes on classic songs, this production is sure to be a hit with audiences of all ages.
